Using the right brush for your hair can really make a difference. The right brush can keep your hair healthy, kempt and styled exactly the way you like it. Don’t be the kind of girl who NEVER brushes her hair because it gets too puffy or the one who brushes her hair 24/7 because it’s relaxing or soothing! The way you brush and take care of your hair really makes your hair much better (or much worse when not done properly )
A blog about tips on hair brushes and brushing your hair would not be complete without first giving background information on the 3 most commonly used hair brushes.
A paddle hair brush usually comes in a rectangular/square shape or an oval shape. It is usually pretty flat and wide – generally made of plastic, timber or ceramic and its bristles are usually nylon or boar. The bristles are on an air like cushion so that when you brush your hair it can make it feel like a soothing massage while evenly distributing the natural oils from your roots to your hair. This brush is great for smoothing and detangling your hair in the most comfortable and gentle manner. It can be used for any hair type, length and style.
A Round Hair brush is a round brush that has bristles all around the entire brush. It is generally used for blow drying and styling hair. They are either made of timber or ceramic with natural or nylon bristles. The ceramic ones are usually used for blowing since it heats up and helps blow dry your hair faster. Some of them have vent holes to allow the heat from the blow dryer to circulate at the roots of the hair in order to create more volume
A half-round hair brush is a great brush for those who like flipping the ends of their hair inwards or outwards, or simply for those whole like to have bounce and wave without too much volume. It looks like a round brush that’s cut down the center. They are generally made of timber and plastic and sometimes the bristles are on an air like cushion like the paddle brush and sometimes they are directly on the brush like the round brush.
You know your hair better than anyone else in the world, so go ahead and choose one that you think will be best for you. Make sure you have the correct hair brush for the style and texture you are trying to get. Below are some hair brushing tips:
- Wash your hair brush regularly in warm water and shampoo.
- It is very important to use a brush with bristles that are long enough to reach your scalp so that when you brush your hair you distribute the natural oils from your roots to the rest of your hair. This is one of the reasons why it is so crucial to brush your hair.
- Your hair is weaker when it’s wet. If you have to brush your hair when it’s wet – comb it gently. However, it is better to wait for it to dry a bit and then brush it to detangle the knots.
- The best way to brush thick, frizzy and puffy hair is with a comb because it keeps it more tame and neat.
